Before the trip
How I Feel
Negative: I am excited about my residential but worried too. I am worried because I wont be at home, I will be in a tent with 3-4 other people (my friends/whomever we choose.) I am also worried because we have to stay outside in a tent, and I will get wet when we do activities such as kayaking. I am scared for activities like the ziplines because they are so high up!
Positive: But I also feel excited because staying with 3-4 of my friends for 2 nights sounds so much fun! We will be so bouncy and probably won’t sleep (because we are allowed to bring sweets!) It will be so fun doing all of the activities! Such as kayaking, ziplining and lots of races, team games and other fun events! On one of the nights we are supposed to have a disco!
How It Was
First day of my residential we finally arrived after an hour and a half bus ride there! When we walked in, an instructor named Luca came to greet us and told us that he was our guide for the next 3 days. He then gave us a tour of the campus, it was massive. There was a huge castle with a top lawn, middle lawn and bottom lawn.
He showed us most of the activity areas like the out of bounds zone-aka the invisible line-where the lake was. We were then introduced to some staff members who would be assisting us in some of our activities. The first activity we did was by far the scariest the trapeze-you had to climb to the top of the pole stand on the platform and jump onto the bar which was hanging there for you to catch, while other people were helping with B-laying. Next we did highropes-it was basically an obstacle course except from really high up in the air! It was so fun even though it was really hard, it was definitely my favorite activity. Then we was showed to our tents I was with my friends so I was really happy about that, we unpacked for about 20 minutes then went off to eat dinner which was chicken or fish with a salad I got chicken because I don’t really like fish.
Day 2 on my residential. For breakfast it was a full English breakfast which I thought was okay but I got cereal too. On this day we had abseiling-we had to use a rope to lower ourselves back down from a wall-it was really scary because you had to use the rope you were attached to to lower yourself down! We also did the opposite of that which was rock climbing-using rocks to climb up a high wall-I got to the top of both sides using the challenges we had to do as well! Later on after we had 30 minutes free time we had orienteering we had to find all of the points hidden around the campus. We only had a map, paper and a pencil! This one was really hard because we got lost a few times but I enjoyed it. At 6pm we had dinner. It was chicken kiev or spaghetti and meatballs. At 7.30pm we had a game of capture the flag. I enjoyed this but others didn’t because they got hurt from some of the pushing and shoving. After capture the flag we went to our tents and got ready for bed and went to sleep, on this night we went straight to sleep because we were worn out!
Last day on my residential, in the morning we woke up and had free time for about 45 minutes-1 hour then set off for breakfast, it was a full English breakfast again but this time I only got cereal and an apple. We then went back to our tents and got ready for the day and pack up all of your belongings. On this day we only had 1 activity as it was our last day, our activity was kayaking I didn’t fall in but 2 boats did. We played a game where we had to score points by collecting ducks, then we had to throw the docks back into the instructors boat to get more points. Then we jumped in! Sadly after that ,we had free time then ate lunch which was burger and chips and then before I knew it I was on the bus home.
When i got home I felt happy to see my parents for the first time in 3 days, but I also felt sad to leave my tent because it was a lot of fun to giggle in a tent with all my friends. I really enjoyed my residential and most probably will be going next year, but I am still happy at home now.
